{"id":6369,"date":"2018-04-26T09:38:03","date_gmt":"2018-04-26T08:38:03","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.utilitygirl.co.uk\/blog\/?p=6369"},"modified":"2018-04-26T09:38:20","modified_gmt":"2018-04-26T08:38:20","slug":"macaroni-cheese-recipe","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.utilitygirl.co.uk\/blog\/?p=6369","title":{"rendered":"Macaroni cheese recipe"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>Adapted from https:\/\/www.bbcgoodfood.com\/recipes\/8834\/bestever-macaroni-cheese<\/p>\n<p><strong>Ingredients<\/strong><br \/>\n4 tbsp butter<br \/>\n350g spiral or other short pasta<br \/>\n2 garlic cloves, finely chopped<br \/>\n2 tsp English mustard powder<br \/>\n6 tbsp plain flour<br \/>\n1 litre semi-skimmed milk<br \/>\n250g\/to taste mature cheddar\/any combination of strong cheese, grated or chopped into small pieces<br \/>\nstrong hard cheese, grated for topping<br \/>\nFresh breadcrumbs for topping<\/p>\n<p><strong>Method<\/strong><br \/>\nHeat oven to 200C\/fan 180C\/gas 6.<br \/>\nBoil the pasta for 2 mins less than stated on the pack. Meanwhile, melt the butter in a saucepan.<br \/>\nAdd the garlic and mustard, cook for 1 min, then stir in the flour.<br \/>\nCook for 1 min more, then gradually whisk in the milk until you have a lump-free sauce. Simmer for 5 mins, whisking all the time until thickened.<br \/>\nTake off the heat, then stir in the cheese.<br \/>\nStir the pasta and some seasoning into the cheesy sauce. Tip into a large ovenproof dish, or 4 individual dishes.<br \/>\nScatter over the hard cheese, then cover with breadcrumbs, then bake for 20 mins until crisp and golden.
